pointing

The woman speaks and says: see your pointing finger, see! it is an object. It has shape and density, colour and form. See your pointing finger point to a wall, a door, a table, a chair. Each object has shape and density, colour and form. yes? You see it? I am nodding. Now, she nemphatically, point to your leg. It is the same, yes? Yes. Now, point to the place above your shoulders; point to the place of seeing. Her speaking slows but her emphasis does not. Does it have a shape or density, colour or form? Base your answer on your evidence, she insists. No, I reply, whatever it is, it is colourless, formless and changeless. It is no-thing. And that makes me laugh.

…from an imaginary conversation with Catherine Harding.
